My mother grew up during a time period that was not favorable towards pot.
Cannabis was considered a gateway drug & only people without jobs consumed it.
When recreational cannabis was legalized in our state, my mother was positive she would never smoke it. She was proud of the fact that she had never even tried cannabis. All of the proven medical benefits of marijuana made no difference to her. Sadly, it was not until my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer that she changed her opinion. The chemotherapy was just so difficult. The symptoms of her cancer were really affecting her. Her doctor actually convinced mom to try medical marijuana. My mother did not want to visit a head shop. The doctor explained that medical marijuana dispensaries are very different and above board. The doctor was right. After my mother completed the necessary paperwork, I took her to a medical mairjuana dispensary. It was not anything like the recreational alternatives with vaping lounges, couches & glass displays with vapes & edibles. Instead, the medical dispensary looked almost identical to a doctor’s office. We sat in the waiting room for an appointment time & entered into a separate room to consult with the budtender. The budtender was wonderful and listened to my mother’s concerns. He explained the benefits of cannabis for treated her nausea & recommended a product for her. My mother was grateful that she did not have to smoke anything. She also was relieved to receive the cannabis products right on the spot. The entire experience was eye opening for her in terms of cannabis.
