The light fell on the table and nearly hit a customer

The light above the cash registers has been flickering for several weeks.

The marijuana dispensary is in an older building. A lot of the fixtures are 50 years old, including the fluorescent lights. The fluorescent lights have been flickering for weeks, even though I told the building maintenance crew that the problem needed to be fixed. Unfortunately, they never found the time to repair the light and now we have an even bigger problem. While I was working yesterday, there was a small earthquake. The building shook and rumbled and the fluorescent light fell on the table and nearly hit one of our customers. The light missed the customer by a few inches. I asked the customer to fill out an incident report before she left the dispensary. She did not note any injuries from the accident at the time. She even checked and signed a box that claimed she was free of injuries. Unfortunately, now the woman is claiming to have a back injury. Several hours after she left the cannabis dispensary, she went to the emergency room with pain in her lower back. The light fixture never touched the woman, so I find it hard to believe that she has a serious injury from the light. My boss made me fill out a 3 page report about the incident and I had to include the incident report from the woman. I don’t think that customers can get a lawyer and sue the marijuana dispensary for damage during an earthquake, but it’s a good thing the place has lawyers to handle these issues.
