Most marijuana shops only accept cash, so it really isn’t something out of the ordinary.
Recently a couple of places have started accepting debit cards, but they often charge a 3 or $4 fee just like an ATM machine. The reason the marijuana shops only accept cash is due to the federal laws. A lot of people complain when they find out that they can’t use a debit card, but we have two ATM machines in the lobby for everyone to use. There are also several signs on the checkout counter stating the fact that we only accept cash. Still, a guy tried to use his Paypal card for a cannabis purchase last week. I was the budtender working at the front counter. The guy wanted to order a couple of items and pay for them with his Paypal card. Then he wanted us to deliver the items to an address across town. The entire transaction seemed very strange, and my boss got involved when she found out that the guy was trying to have the items delivered even though he was already in the store. When the guy pulled out the PayPal card, my boss stopped him immediately and told him that we deal with cash only transactions. The guy got really angry and upset and started yelling and screaming. The security guard came close to the counter with his hand on his taser and the guy immediately quieted down and exited the building without another word.
