Old ways are sometimes the best

When I decided I wanted to earn a degree in plant chemistry I had the future in mind for sure.

Over the past several years, many states have approved the use of medical and even recreational marijuana and I wanted to be in the forefront of the industry.

Everything I read indicated that this industry was going to explode over the next 10 years and I knew the earning potential I could have set me up for a great retirement in the years to come. Of course my parents had no clue why I wanted a degree in plant chemistry until one day when we were sitting around talking at the dinner table. I told them that I wanted to understand the science and process for growing and developing new strains of marijuana plants. But I finished my explanation I thought they were going to be upset but instead my dad simply laughed. He grew up as a child of the sixties and said that he knew a bit about growing pot. I was taken aback at first but then realized that his knowledge could be a great asset to me in my career ahead. When you think about it, people in the 60s had to go to great lengths to ensure that the growing environment was perfect for these plans yet hidden from public view. They were able to grow and develop plants under less-than-ideal conditions and many of those techniques can still be used today on a larger scale. After that discussion, I was excited to share all of the knowledge that I learned in my college classes with my parents and they were excited for me as well.
